Robert & Petra Hollmann

Robert Hollmann: At home on many stages.

This much is certain: A tidy career in the Austrian civil service with a guarantee of employment until retirement was a no-go for hotelier Robert Hollmann. The Vienna-born Hollmann much preferred to realise his own vision, and he would go to the other end of the world if need be. But before he made his dream of a seaside hotel under mango trees come true, he travelled around the world. After stopovers as a confectioner and chef’s apprentice in Vienna, and in kitchens in New York and Honolulu, he applied to a drama school in Vienna and financed his studies there with an engagement at the Vienna Burgtheater. The “frog” in the operetta “Die Fledermaus” at the Hamburg State Opera transformed abruptly into a prince in 2007 when he met his future wife, a Carinthian named Petra. Because three more innovations were missing from the Hollmann hotel collection, in addition to a hotel in the city and one on the beach, the loveliest spots in Adria, Paris and Turrach in Carinthia were scouted out in no time at all in order to fulfil his guests’ every wish in holiday hideaways.

Petra Hollmann: From gynaecologist to hostess.

When her industrious husband Robert asked her where she would like to live if she could choose, Asia was the clear answer for Petra Hollmann. The mysticism and spirituality of the continent had long fascinated her. However, before she embarked on her Sri Lankan adventure, Carinthia-born Dr. Hollmann had already finished her medical studies in Graz, and after she completed her training as a specialist in gynaecology, she opened a surgery in Klagenfurt that she operated for ten years. Things kept moving at a rapid pace because the gynaecologist, who met her future husband in 2007, was already expecting baby number three in 2010. Her husband Robert had an idea for his newest hotel project.

After intensive research, the choice fell to a property near Dickwella on the southern tip of Sri Lanka. After months of tough negotiations, complicated legal provisions and financial transactions, the family emigrated in 2012 in order to establish the UTMT, the Underneath the Mango Tree Spa Resort Hotel. Since the opening on Friday, 13 December 2013, Petra Hollmann looked after the bookings and worked for the promotion and development of the UTMT. The elder daughter’s start at school made it necessary for the family to return to Klagenfurt, and Dr. Hollmann organised the marketing and booking centre as well as her social projects from there. Meanwhile, her husband Robert was already promoting the next projects in Paris, Trieste and Turracher Höhe in Carinthia in order to complete the Hollmann collection.
